Privacy Policy for Limitly
Last Updated: March 24, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the “Limitly” Chrome Extension (“we”, “our”, or “the extension”) handles your information.
1. Data Collection and Usage
Limitly is designed with privacy as a primary focus. All data collected by Limitly is stored locally on your device. We do not transmit, collect, or store your personal information, browsing history, or usage data on external servers.
To provide its core functionality (limiting your time on specific websites), Limitly monitors the websites you visit and records the active time spent on them. This data stays entirely within your local browser storage.
2. Permissions required and why we need them
Limitly requires the following Chrome permissions to function correctly:
- Storage: Used to save your customized settings, categories, daily limits, and the tracked time data locally on your machine.
- Tabs & WebNavigation: Used to detect which website is currently open and active in your browser so the extension can accurately track and limit your time according to your preferences.
- Alarms: Used to periodically check limits, reset your daily allowances at midnight, and manage background tasks efficiently.
- Host Permissions (
*://*/*): Allows the extension to monitor your active tabs across all URLs, as the extension needs to compare your current website against your custom block/limit lists.
3. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your information to outside parties. Because your data never leaves your device, there is no mechanism for us or any third party to access your browsing habits or extension settings.
4. Your Rights and Control
You have full control over your data. You can delete all data collected by Limitly at any time by:
- Using the clear data/reset options within the extension’s settings.
- Uninstalling the Limitly extension from your browser, which will automatically clear its local storage.
5. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Last Updated” date.
